SURAT KEPADA THE STAR

Jadi email Uncle kepada The Star. Kita tengok berani tak The Star siarkan surat Uncle ini.
OPEN LETTER TO DR.KOH TSU KOON

The Star, of 7th August 2010, on page N38, reported you as advocating that the public should report “rude and hostile police officers to the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) so that action can be taken to improve the force”, during the opening of the Terengganu Gerakan delegates meeting. Why single out the Royal Malaysia Police alone for being rude and hostile. Are other government agencies and even the public, innocent?

Let me assure you, that personally, I will be the first to reprimand and take disciplinary action if necessary, if any of my officers are rude, arrogant and abusive to the general public who seeks police assistance. At the same time, I will be the first to direct my subordinates to make a police report for the offence of acting in an abusive, unruly and disorderling manner against any citizen who makes a scene at a police station when “demanding that the police do their (public) bidding”. We have had more than our fair share of arrogant, rude and abusive public, who insists that the police do as they, the public wants, even when explained that such bidding is not in line with stated laws, regulations and standard police procedures. Members of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) are human beings and not robots. We may be public servants but we are definitely, not slaves of the public.

While applauding your good intention to create a more civilised police force, it would also be fair if you could suggest a reciprocal government campaign to create a civilised malaysian public at the same time. Only then would we have a truly civil society. The good Lord gave us two eyes, Dr.Koh, so that we can see from different perspective, two ears, so that we can hear both sides of the story but please do not use the one mouth that we have, to utter only words that we want to hear and calculated to make us popular.

The Royal Malaysia Police recruits its officers and men from eligible Malaysian citizens who are born and raised up in this country. If there are arrogant and rude police officers, it goes without saying that something is not right with the way Malaysia is educating and raising young Malaysians, that we are instilling the wrong values into our heirs who will be future members of the RMP. If you fished in polluted waters, Dr. Koh, you will get polluted fish and Malaysia will reap what it sows. Please think about that.
